Anyone who knows me knows that I love a good cocktail, always with gin. Now, for the blog, I’ll attempt to expand my horizons into the whiskey, bourbon, vodka arena, but gin is just so delicious and classy. First up in the Classy Cocktail category is a drink I was recently introduced to by lovely husband. It’s called the Fitzgerald, no it wasn’t enjoyed by F. Scott himself, though he surely would’ve enjoyed it. Like me, F. Scott loved him some gin, probably a little too much. He believed that you couldn’t detect the scent on his breathe, also he had a remarkably low tolerance. The drink Fitzgerald was created rather recently by a guy named Dale DeGroff. Wikipedia calls him a “premier drink mixologist.” Anyway here is the recipe:
- .75 oz lemon juice, preferably fresh squeezed
- .75 oz simple syrup
- 2 oz of gin, my favorite is Tanqueray
- 2 dashes of angostura bitters
Mix well with ice and strain into a glass with an ice cube or two
This drink is perfect, slightly sweet but with enough bite that you don’t feel like your drinking a jolly rancher. Also it’s basically gin with extras, so drink SLOWLY otherwise you will turn into drunks like F. Scott and Zelda.
